An attempt at brevity

Well, folks, I could go into a lengthy recap of my academic and professional history that you would scroll through and wonder, “Hey, why didn’t I just glance over her resume to find the same information in a larger font size?” But instead, I’d like to share a little bit about who I am and what I care about aside from my career.

Music is a great love of my life. Whether it’s listening, watching, or playing, music has always made me feel deeply human.

As a small child, I would insist that my family turn off the Sunday football game so I could belt out probably a song from Annie or The Wizard of Oz, standing all of 3 feet tall atop an ottoman at my great grandma Darlene’s house. Now that I’m a little taller, my family is less inclined to put up with these antics, but I have never stopped loving the art of performance.

I learned to play acoustic guitar, alto saxophone, and keyboard starting in elementary and middle school, and I only started writing what I consider to be decent music in the past few years after I got serious about writing poetry.

In the process of building my poetry book (still a work in progress), I found that much of my work lends itself to a lyricism that speaks to my experiences and that’s a joy and expression I hope to continue to foster.

I also plan to record some of my music in the next few years, even if it’s just to gift my mom a vinyl with my face on it for us to cry to, and I’ll be sharing my love for music with patients at Blank Children’s Hospital as a music therapy volunteer starting this winter.

Another important pattern in my life is the propensity to take old things and make them new. As the daughter of a record collector, I was highly trained to sort through trash to find treasure from a young age.

My own journey started in 2015 when I opened an account with an online clothing resale platform. I began by selling some of my old clothes (as lovely as my form-fitting Rue 21 graphic tees and neon pink skinny jeans were) to make some money to purchase new ones.

This side-hustle became even more fulfilling when I began refurbishing old clothing from friends and family, then expanded to rescuing and revamping vintage clothing and even some furniture that was otherwise doomed to the trash pile. Years later, I still enjoy identifying the possibilities and bringing new life to old things.

I am currently working on building a vintage booth at a local antique shop to showcase some of my work and bring my online store to the real world.

As you can tell, I have a passion for creating, especially when it furthers a mission I find worthwhile.

I’ve found my work at United Healthcare to fall gracefully into this pocket. Getting messaging and reminders to retirees and their caregivers, many of which have so much to juggle, is a very important undertaking, and it’s challenged me to explore a new perspective.

Going forward, I hope to continue expanding my knowledge in communication and its ever-evolving developments in digital media. While I have many plans and aspirations, my mind is always prepared for the flexibility that life requires and open to new possibilities.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little bit better. If you’d like to chat more about these topics (or whatever strikes your fancy), please send me an email at alli.a.weaver@gmail.com, or use the contact fields below.
